In Spanish, Monte Sano means “Mountain of Health.” In the late 1800s, visitors from across the United States came for “the season” to experience and enjoy Monte Sano’s fresh air, spectacular views, and mineral springs. ACCOMMODATIONS Fourteen rustic cabins, 11 of which were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) around the 1930s, are situated on the side of Monte Sano, offering a perfect vantage point for taking in the amazing sunrises. For the best directions, click here. NATURE Monte Sano spans 2,140 acres, offering spectacular vistas from its summit, especially during the fall when the leaves put on a vibrant display of color. In the spring, native azaleas bloom along the 20 miles of hiking trails and 14 miles of biking trails. AREA ATTRACTIONS The Land Trust of North Alabama (Alabama's First Land Trust) (256) 534-LAND. Huntsville Botanical Gardens, The U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Burritt on the Mountain, Early Works Family of Museums, and Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment.
