Avera Missouri River Health Center
Avera Missouri River Health Center, also known as Avera Gettysburg Hospital and Gettysburg Medical Center, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization affiliated with Avera Health, established in 1952. The organization promotes health through quality services guided by Christian values, aiming to positively impact the lives and health of persons and communities. It serves residents of Gettysburg, South Dakota, and surrounding counties including Potter, Sully, Faulk, Dewey, Edmunds, and Walworth. The current 21,800-square-foot medical center, which also houses the Avera Gettysburg clinic, was a new $12 million facility completed around 2021, with its emergency department opening in December 2020 and full facility functions starting shortly thereafter. This facility incorporates innovative design and technology for flexible care delivery, essential for rural healthcare. As a critical access hospital, it provides 24/7 emergency care, essential primary care, and a range of specialized services. Beyond the hospital and clinic, Avera Gettysburg also includes a 53-bed nursing home in Gettysburg, South Dakota, known as Oahe Manor, which offers acute care, swing-bed, and long-term healthcare services. The facility provides comprehensive services including a seven-bed inpatient hospital unit (comprising three private rooms, including an isolation patient room, and two semi-private rooms), a surgical suite, a new leading-edge emergency services department, and a therapy gym with future wellness center options. Patient rooms are connected to Avera's telemedicine program, Avera eCARE®, ensuring access to specialized personnel if needed.
