Alpena Senior Citizen Center
The Alpena Senior Citizen Center, legally known as the Alpena Area Senior Citizens Council, Inc., is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to serving the older adults of Alpena County. Its mission is to promote and protect the dignity, independence, and welfare of seniors in the community. The center acts as a central point for leadership, innovation, and advocacy in providing a wide range of senior services. Their goals include improving the health and nutrition of older adults through educational and nutritional programs, serving as an access point for information and services for seniors and their caregivers, promoting financial independence, and protecting older adults from abuse and exploitation. The center itself is a hub of activity, offering daily congregate meals in a social setting, exercise classes, and a wide array of recreational activities such as quilting, cards, bingo, and needle crafts. They also provide crucial support services, including transportation for medical appointments and shopping, medication management assistance, and support groups for individuals with dementia and their caregivers.
