We built this because
we needed it ourselves.

The story behind families.care, and why it exists.

In 2023, my father-in-law was diagnosed with vascular dementia. One day he was the person who remembered everyone's birthday. The next, he was getting lost walking home from the corner store.

My wife and I spent weeks trying to figure out what to do. Night after night at the kitchen table, laptops open, calling places that never called back, visiting facilities that looked nothing like their websites.

The hardest part wasn't a lack of options. It was a lack of clarity. Good places existed. We just couldn't compare them in a way that made us feel confident about the decision.

I'm a software engineer, so I started pulling together the data: government registries, licensing databases, inspection reports, and quality ratings, all in one place that families could actually use. That side project became this company.

Today we cover more than 280,000 providers across 20+ countries. Every listing is checked against official sources. Free for families. Always will be.

We're a small team that got into this because someone we love got sick. We believe families deserve better tools during one of the hardest chapters of their lives, whether they're in Chicago, Santiago, or Seoul.
