Albany Medical Center Pediatric
The Bernard & Millie Duker Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center is the only dedicated children's hospital in northeastern New York and western New England, serving a 25-county region. Established in 1986, it operates as a specialized "hospital within a hospital" at the main Albany Medical Center campus. The facility provides comprehensive care for infants, children, and adolescents, ranging from routine pediatric wellness to the most complex surgical and critical care interventions. It is home to the region's only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and the Massry Family Children's Emergency Center, which is the area's only emergency department designed exclusively for pediatric patients. With over 125 beds, the children's hospital is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of more than 140 physicians across 40 pediatric subspecialties and 400 specialized pediatric nurses. Key signature programs include the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders, a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and a high-acuity Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The facility is also a designated center for specialized treatments in cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease, and environmental health, acting as a critical safety net for medically complex children throughout upstate New York. In addition to medical excellence, the hospital emphasizes family-centered care through the support of Child Life specialists, social workers, and therapists. It maintains a strong partnership with the Ronald McDonald House of the Capital Region to support families of long-term patients. As an academic medical center affiliated with Albany Medical College, it also serves as a primary training site for the next generation of pediatricians and researchers, ensuring access to the latest medical advancements and clinical trials.
