Allen County RTA (Regional Transit Authority)

The Allen County Regional Transit Authority (ACRTA) is a public transportation provider serving Lima and Allen County, Ohio. Established in September 1974 by the Allen County Board of Commissioners, its core mission is to deliver safe, reliable, comfortable, and accessible transit services, thereby enhancing mobility and the quality of life for its patrons. ACRTA aims to connect people to their communities, facilitating access to shopping, medical appointments, work, and entertainment. One of ACRTA's key offerings is the UPLIFT program, a complementary paratransit service specifically designed for individuals with disabilities and those aged 65 and older who are unable to utilize the fixed-route bus service. UPLIFT provides shared, door-to-door transportation, with all vehicles being wheelchair lift- or ramp-equipped to ensure accessibility. Eligibility for the reduced fare UPLIFT service requires an application process, including medical verification for individuals with disabilities. The UPLIFT service area covers ¾ of a mile beyond any of the fixed routes, ensuring broader access for eligible residents. Beyond UPLIFT, ACRTA operates a system of fixed bus routes across Allen County and has expanded to include micro-transit and demand-response services, such as those launched in Van Wert County. The organization emphasizes its commitment to the community's economic vitality and environmental stability, promoting public transportation as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to personal vehicle use.
