Active Re-Entry Independent Living Programs

Active Re-Entry is a community-based, non-residential, private nonprofit organization that assists individuals with disabilities in achieving and maintaining self-sufficient, productive lives within their own communities. Established in 1987, it is a consumer-controlled entity, with a majority of its staff and board members being individuals with disabilities. The organization is committed to promoting the rights, dignity, and quality of life for all persons with disabilities. Active Re-Entry serves seven counties in Eastern Utah, covering over 27,000 square miles from the Wyoming to the Arizona border, including Daggett, Duchesne, Uintah, Carbon, Emery, Grand, and San Juan counties. As a Center for Independent Living (CIL), Active Re-Entry provides five core services: Information and Referral, Independent Living Skills Training, Individual and Systems Advocacy, Peer Counseling and Support, and services to divert individuals from or transition them out of nursing homes. They offer a variety of programs to meet the specific needs of their local communities, with all services being provided free of charge. Unique programs include a Low Vision Program, Assistive Technology Program, Youth Programs for individuals aged 8-24, a Music & Memory Program, the PERKIE Travels Program providing free transportation for cancer patients, and an Equipment Loan Bank. What makes Active Re-Entry unique is its consumer-controlled philosophy and its comprehensive, community-based approach to empowering individuals with disabilities. Rather than providing residential care, the focus is on providing the skills, resources, and support necessary for individuals to live independently in their own homes and be integrated into their communities. They also engage in community integration and disability awareness programs to promote sensitivity and positive attitudes about persons with disabilities.
